The Alabama Republican Party announced on Tuesday that the deadline for candidates wishing to be considered as the Alabama Republican Party nominee for House District 47 is this Friday, April 29, 2022, at 5 p.m.

Sadly, HD47 became vacant following the death of State Representative David Wheeler (R-Vestavia Hills) last month.

At the time of his death, the popular Wheeler was the only qualified candidate for the district and this was after the Feb. 28 deadline for candidates to normally qualify for the Republican primary. Pursuant to state law, the ALGOP is tasked with choosing a nominee to replace him on the General Election ballot as it is too late to add the race to the May 24 Republican primary ballot.

“It's a top priority for the Party to choose someone who will best represent the voters of House District 47 and Jefferson County, as well as our Republican Party platform,” ALGOP Chairman John Wahl said.

Interested parties should submit a Declaration of Intent form (available for download at www.algop.org), a cover letter, their resume, and any references they wish to include. All application packages must be emailed to ALGOP Executive Director Reed Phillips at rphillips@algop.org.

Once the application window has closed, all potential candidates will be contacted to schedule an interview.

Alabama House District 47 includes portions of Vestavia Hills, Hoover, and unincorporated Jefferson County.
