New job opportunities are coming to Prichard with the addition of a 25,000-square-foot Frito-Lay distribution center.

Officials have already broken ground for the facility off Anton Street.

"This development underscores the economic vitality of our region and the strategic advantages we offer for logistics and distribution operations. We are excited about the job opportunities and economic growth this will bring," said Mobile Chamber president and CEO Bradley Byrne.

The center will be used as a delivery hub for stores in the greater Mobile area.

“This new Frito-Lay distribution center represents a significant capital investment within the City of Prichard and adds to Mobile County’s rapidly growing logistics infrastructure,” said Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood. “This $8 million capital outlay represents construction and other jobs. Frito-Lay’s distribution center should ignite additional investment and stimulate the local economy.”

Prichard Mayor Jimmie Gardner said he is thankful that Frito-Lay North America, a division of PepsiCo, Inc., believed in his city.

“As we celebrate this exciting new chapter, we look forward to the positive impact this facility will have on our residents and businesses. Together, we will continue to foster a vibrant community where everyone can thrive. Thank you, Frito-Lay, for choosing Prichard as your new home,” said Gardner.

Prichard has struggled in recent years with the University of Mobile wanting to break away from the city, alleged corruption within the council and Water Board issues. Even Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch has expressed deep concerns with how the police department is managed. So, this bit of good news is needed, city leaders said.

“I am thrilled to welcome Frito-Lay Distribution Center to our community,” added Prichard Council president George E. McCall. “Your presence here not only brings new jobs and opportunities for our residents but also signifies a significant boost to our local economy. We look forward to the positive impact your company will have on the growth and development of Prichard, and we are excited to partner together for a prosperous future.”

The facility is expected to be fully operational by June 2025.
