Jacksonville State 42, Stephen F. Austin 17 … Gamecocks dominated the 10th ranked team in the country behind the running game, QB Zion Webb and an active defense. The game ended with over 14 minutes left because of the weather.
Alabama State 23, Howard 13 … Highlight for the Hornets was a 99-yard drive in the third quarter that put them in control of the MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kickoff. Three weather delays couldn't dampen the celebration after the win.
Reinhardt (Ga.) 34, Faulkner 27 … Faulkner nearly came back from a 17-point deficit in the second half but couldn't quite get over the hump.

Alabama A&M vs. UAB at Protective Stadium (Thursday, 7 p.m.) … A big crowd should witness Bryant Vincent's first game as a college head coach. UAB is settled at quarterback. Is Alabama A&M?
Samford vs. Kennesaw State (6 p.m., ESPN+) … Michael Hiers should get the start at QB for Samford while the Bulldogs' defense looks to slow down a potent option attack.
UNA at Indiana State (5 p.m., ESPN+) … Finishing games is a focus for a UNA team that led in eight games last season but only won three times.
Saturday
Alabama vs. Utah State (6:30 p.m., ESPN+) … Bryce Young begins his chase for a second consecutive Heisman Trophy while Will Anderson Jr. tries to claim the Trophy for himself.
Alabama State vs. Miles at Montgomery (5 p.m., ESPN+) … Eddie Robinson Jr. got a win in his first game as a college head coach. Can Miles' Sam Shade do the same thing?
Auburn vs. Mercer (6 p.m., ESPN+) … T.J. Finley won the starting quarterback job. It's his task to keep it.
Birmingham Southern at McMurry at War Memorial Stadium, Little Rock, Arkansas (1 p.m) … Panthers are coming off a 10-win season and start 2022 with a neutral site contest in a historic stadium.
Huntingdon vs. Linfield (Ore.) (6 p.m.) … The USA South Athletic Conference favorite plays host to the Linfield team that won its first 11 games last season before falling in the D-3 quarterfinals.
Jacksonville State vs. Davidson (1 p.m., ESPN+) … Rich Rodriguez looks to improve to 2-0 as an FCS head coach.
South Alabama vs. Nicholls (4 p.m., ESPN+) … Toledo transfer Carter Bradley gets his first start at quarterback for the Jaguars.
Troy at Ole Miss (3 p.m., SEC Network) … Will the Jon Sumrall era begin with a big upset in Oxford?
West Alabama at Morehouse College (5 p.m.) ... West Alabama won last year's opener between the two teams, 48-7.
Sunday
Tuskegee vs. Fort Valley State at Cramton Bowl, Montgomery (6 p.m., ESPNU) … For the second consecutive year, the teams meet in the season-opening Boeing Red Tails Classic. Fort Valley State was a 30-0 winner last year.
