The city of Gadsden has taken its first step in hosting a new cancer treatment center.

The project, which was announced months ago, took its first step after the city finalized the $597,000 sale of the land to the Alabama Cancer Care Network.

“This development is important for providing jobs and improving the quality of life for Gadsden residents,” said newly-elected Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford.

The $6.5 million investment by the Alabama Cancer Care Network is expected to create between 15 and 20 health care jobs in Gadsden, along with positions for three doctors.
