The Gadsden Police Department arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a shooting Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the East Gadsden Walmart.

The teen is charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle. Gadsden Police said more charges are pending.

Officers first responded to a report of shots fired at 12:30 p.m. They discovered two vehicles were struck by gunfire, but no one was injured. Upon investigating, detectives determined the shooting stemmed from an argument between the teen and another individual inside the store. The altercation moved outside, where investigators said the teen produced a gun, ran, and began shooting at the other individual.

Gadsden Police said the situation should have never involved a firearm.

“We are fortunate no one was hurt,” said chief Lamar Jaggears. “Situations like this remind us how fast things can happen. Our officers and this community responded exactly how they should, and we will continue to hold people accountable when they choose to endanger others.”

Mayor Craig Ford stated, “I’m so glad this didn’t end in tragedy. I appreciate the quick response from our officers and the cooperation from those on scene. That’s what keeps our community strong.”

The teen's name has not been released. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
