Gadsden will play host to an annual world barbeque competition.

The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) has announced that its third annual KCBS World Invitational Barbeque Competition, presented by Smithfield, will be held at Gadsden’s Noccalula Falls Park and Campground on Nov. 11-13, 2022.

The three-day competition will bring pitmaster and barbeque enthusiasts from around the world to battle for the KCBS World Champion title.

“I want to thank Janet Tarrance for all the hard work that she does,” said Gadsden Parks and Recreation Director Jen Weathington. “We were awarded this because of everything that she puts into Smoke on the Falls in April.”

Tarrance is the organizer of Smoke on the Falls.

“We are delighted to partner with KCBS to bring championship pitmasters to Gadsden,” Weathington said. “We’ve hosted large-scale KCBS regular-season contests for 10 years and are excited to host the KCBS World Invitational.”

The event is expected to draw over 150 competitors from the U.S. and more than 37 other countries to the Alabama campground.

KCBS is a nonprofit organization, which boasts itself the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts, with over 20,000 members worldwide.
