The average price of gasoline per gallon is starting to trend down after going over $4 per gallon last month.
As of Sunday, the cost of a gallon of gas in Alabama was $3.81, according to AAA.
A month ago, the average was $4.10 per gallon, a 50% increase from a year earlier, when the average was $2.73 per gallon.
The average price of gasoline has plunged nationwide, according to GasBuddy. Falling oil prices and growing optimism surrounding the U.S.-Iran situation initially influenced the drop. Still, experts warn the relief could be short-lived as diplomatic talks stall and oil flows remain restricted through the Strait of Hormuz.
The national average is $4.17. Indiana has the lowest gas prices, with the average at $3.46 per gallon.
The highest recorded average gas price in Alabama was in 2022, when regular gas sold for $4.63 per gallon.
