Alabama drivers are continuing to see price increases at the pump due to the conflict between the United States and Iran.
The United States recently began combat operations against Iran. In response, Iran has halted the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. According to media reports, Iran has also bombed some oil and gas infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The conflict has led to oil and gas prices spiking worldwide.
According to AAA, the average price of unleaded gasoline was $3.28 per gallon in Alabama on Friday. The average price of unleaded in Alabama was only $2.62 a month ago, according to AAA.
The average price of diesel in Alabama was $4.79 per gallon, up from $3.41 a month ago.
The national average of unleaded gasoline on Friday was $3.63.
"I think it's reasonable to say that as long as there is uncertainty in the overall worldwide oil market, there's going to be uncertainty in retail prices in general. Until such time as the uncertainty at the national and the worldwide level kind of settles down just a little bit, we can expect to continue to see some volatility in the local markets as well," Bart Fletcher, president of the Petroleum and Convenience Marketers of Alabama (P&CMA), told 1819 News on Friday. "Even though we have seen an increase in the retail price on the street, we still continue to remain pretty much statewide significantly below the national average so while things are a little bit more expensive here in Alabama than they have been we continue to be better off than the national average which I think is a positive."
