Saturday, George Wallace, Jr., son of former Gov. George Wallace, who was left paralyzed below the waist for the rest of his life after an assassination attempt during his 1972 presidential bid, reacted to the news that former President Donald Trump faced an apparent assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pa.

"As the son of a father whose life was profoundly affected by an assassination attempt during a presidential campaign, I join millions of Americans in sending prayers of thanks to God that President Trump was not seriously injured," he said in a statement.

"Big personalities with bold policies and ideas, like my father and President Trump, generate strong feelings and opposition from the other side, but that opposition should always be expressed in the form of ballots, not bullets," the younger Wallace added.
