The company confirmed that Golden Flake snack food production in Alabama will end in early July.

Utz Brands, based in Hanover, Pa., owns the company. For decades, Golden Flake has been made in Birmingham. With the closure of the longtime factory will come 175 layoffs. Employees will get severance payments.

However, products will still be sold out of a new warehouse. That facility will employ around 100 people.

Utz does not expect product availability issues.

Utz bought Golden Enterprises, the former owner of Golden Flake, for $141 million in 2016. The brand was founded in 1923 in the basement of a North Birmingham grocery store.

Besides Utz and Golden Flake, the company sells snack foods under other brands, including On The Border, Zapp’s, Good Health, Boulder Canyon and Hawaiian Brand.
