Donald Trump delivered his first major address as the 47th President of the United States Tuesday night to a joint session of Congress, offering an optimistic outlook on America's future.

During his nearly two-hour speech, Trump laid out his agenda for his second term and explained how he would make good on his promises to undo the damage of the Biden administration regarding national security, economic growth, foreign policy and protecting the southern border.

Unsurprisingly, the speech drew the ire of Democrats who remained seated throughout, even refusing to stand and applaud for a 13-year-old cancer survivor, the passing of the Laken Riley Act and lowering taxes. One Democrat, U.S. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) had to be removed from the chamber at the start of the speech for continual disruption.

Republicans and conservatives, on the other hand, poured out praise for the president's remarks.

"[President Trump] is putting the American people first! He is securing our Border, restoring law and order and bringing opportunity for all. I am proud to continue working with President Trump as he gets our country back on track." Gov. Kay Ivey said on X. She also expressed excitement at the president mentioning Alabamian and Nucor steelworker Jeff Denard during his speech.

Many of Alabama's other Republican leaders posted their reactions on X throughout Trump's speech, highlighting his commitment to putting America first.

"Tonight [the president] made it clear: We're putting Americans first—securing our nation, making streets safe, growing our prosperity, and unleashing our energy potential," U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) posted on X.
