Longtime Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone won re-election on Tuesday.

Stone narrowly defeated local builder and entrepreneur Mark Spurlin, a political newcomer, by a 54-vote margin.

According to unofficial results posted by the Town of Pike Road, Stone won by a 1,566 to 1,512 vote margin over Spurlin.

Most of the campaign between Stone and Spurlin focused on issues relating to zoning and Pike Road’s growth.

Stone said on Facebook after the results were announced, “Thank you Pike Road! I look forward to continuing to serve as your Mayor.”

“I can not tell you how exciting it is to be a part of a town that today broke the record in number of votes cast, and I am so honored that we will be returning,” Stone said.

Stone told 1819 News on Tuesday night, “I’m very proud of Pike Road. The turnout was enormous. We have a lot of passion in our town for our town and that is a wonderful asset.”

“Looking forward to continuing to serve and continuing to carry out the vision that the people have put forth to continue to have good planning and do a good job with our strategic pattern of growth, our economic development, our education models, and our quality of life,” Stone said.
