A co-owner of a Guntersville insurance agency has been confirmed as a member of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) board of directors.
On Wednesday evening, Randall Jones of Guntersville was approved by the U.S Senate for the role in a 53-43 vote.
Jones previously served on the Guntersville Electric Board, where he oversaw a $12.8 million system expansion while keeping debt low. He has also served on the Business Council and Renewal Commission of Alabama and Jacksonville State University's Board of Directors.
Following Jones' approval, Alabama's two U.S. senators took to social media offering their congratulations.
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) hailed Jones' confirmation as "great news for North Alabama."

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) expressed full confidence in Jones, writing he will do an "excellent job representing our state."
Congratulations to my good friend from Guntersville, Randy Jones, on his confirmation to the TVA Board of Directors last night.

I know he will do an excellent job representing our state.
Congress established TVA in 1933 through the TVA Act, which designates a 9-member Board of Directors, nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, to serve 5-year terms.
Currently, the board has three members, but five are required for a quorum.
Along with Jones, Tennessee residents Mitch Graves and Jeff Hagood were also confirmed to the board.
Jones' term expires on May 18, 2028.
