The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) released the identity of the man involved in an officer-involved shooting in Greensboro.
A Greensboro police officer performed a traffic stop Thursday evening that ended in a deadly shootout.
Robert Williams, 64, was identified as the driver of the vehicle. ALEA said Williams first shot the officer and the officer returned fire.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured Greensboro Police Officer and his family as he continues to receive care,” said ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor. “What began as a traffic stop, which is never routine, quickly turned into a life-threatening situation, underscoring the dangers officers face every day. Incidents like this weigh heavily on the entire law enforcement community. We are praying for the Officer’s full recovery and will continue to stand alongside the family and fellow officers during this difficult time.”
The officer was transported to the hospital and was listed in stable condition.
