For the first time in nearly a quarter of a century, Greenville has elected a new mayor.

Jae’ques Brown defeated 25-year incumbent Dexter McLendon in Tuesday's runoff election after having served as mayor since 2000.

According to unofficial results, Brown received 1,386 votes while McLendon received 968.

“It’s not me who has won. It’s all of us in this community who have won,” Brown said in a video posted to his Facebook page Tuesday night.
