State Rep. Greg Barnes (R-Jasper) announced on Monday his re-election campaign for State House District 13.

The 2026 Republican Primary will be held on May 19.

“I am honored that on election night nearly 70% of voters decided I was the best man to represent them in Montgomery,” Barnes said. “Like President Trump, I am not a politician. I am a businessman and a problem-solver. I decided to run for office because we need more conservative outsiders in public office.”

In September, Barnes won in a special election over Dustin Beaty.

“The people of District 13 know that I am a business-minded conservative fighter who will defend their interests and unapologetically stand up for the biblical values that make our state and nation great,” said Barnes.

Barnes is a retired business owner, realtor, and licensed contractor. He founded and managed Greg Barnes Construction and Development, specializing in large-scale projects, specifically in the healthcare, commercial, and residential sectors, until his retirement.

“We need to cut taxes, reduce fees, and eliminate regulations that increase the cost of living. Our tax dollars are not the government’s money; it is our money, and we should be able to keep more of it. I want to put your tax dollars back in your pocket,” Barnes said.

The Alabama Ethics Commission during the special election removed a third candidate, Mike Elliott, from the ballot a few weeks before the election over a required Statement of Economic Interest (SOEI) allegedly arriving after a deadline. Elliott has said he plans to run for the seat again in 2026.
