Artemio Garcia Perez, 20, was arrested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Thursday while attempting to flee the country.
Perez will be extradited to Lee County, where he will be charged with first-degree rape, according to Opelika Police.
During the investigation, Artemio’s brother, Jose Luis Maldonado Perez, was arrested on Wednesday for first-degree hindering prosecution. An immigration detainer will be placed on both brothers. No other details about the charges were available.

According to WSFA, CBP officers apprehended Artemio Garcia Perez at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Guatemala. According to CBP, he is a Guatemalan citizen and was in the United States illegally.
