A 3.9 magnitude earthquake in the Gulf of America was recorded at 9:23 p.m. Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The USGS map shows the epicenter of the quake was in the deepest part of the Gulf, nearly in the middle of the body of water.
Meteorologist Jesse Vinturella said it is rare to see an earthquake register in the Gulf. The largest ever recorded in the Gulf, according to Vinturella, was a 5.9 magnitude in 2006.
No warnings were issued following the earthquake.
