The City of Gulf Shores announced it will recount votes from the 2025 municipal elections after receiving a petition for a recount.
The City sent out a notice of the petition, which Lucas Burger, a candidate for City Council Place 1, filed.
Pursuant to Sections 11-46-55.1 and 11-46-69 of the Code of Alabama, the City will honor the petition.
The recount is scheduled for September 10, at 10 a.m. It will be open to the public at the Activity Center located at 260 Clubhouse Drive.
Burger, a real estate agent, ran against incumbent Joe Garris and Austin "Coach" Boyd. Results showed that a runoff would be necessary between Boyd and Garris, with both receiving nearly half the votes. Burger was far behind with not even 10% of the vote.
Burger has publicly addressed the city council that he believes the inspector for precinct 48 was biased and influenced voting outcomes.
"Heading into an election knowing the referee might be biased against you erodes trust in the entire process—and that's not what our Gulf Shores community deserves," Burger said during the September 3 council meeting.
He asked the City to prioritize hand-counting ballots and resolve chain-of-custody issues with machines.
