Hammering Hank Aaron, for years the home run king, and fellow Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith will be honored Thursday during the official dedication of their statues. The celebration is at 9 a.m. on July 31 in front of the Mobile Convention Center.
All Alabama sports fans are invited. No ticket or RSVP is needed.
St. Louis Cardinal superstar Ozzie Smith will be there in person. The late Hank Aaron will be represented by his wife, Billye, and family.
The Walk of Fame site features six nine-foot-tall bronze statues of Mobile natives who are members of the Hall of Fame.

The statues of “Hammerin’ Hank” and the “Wizard of Oz” are next to likenesses of National Baseball Hall of Fame members Billy Williams, Satchel Paige and Willie McCovey, and Professional Football Hall of Fame member Robert Brazile. They are the eye-catching centerpiece outside the Convention Center in downtown Mobile.
Other local professional athletes, elected officials, and players from local baseball leagues will also be in attendance.
Mobile boasts a unique claim to fame, leading all other U.S. cities in having the most native-born Major League Baseball Hall of Famers per capita.
