After tallying provisional ballots, the Republican primary special election for House District 12 is officially going to a runoff between the top two candidates, Cindy Myrex and Clint Hollingsworth.
None of the four contenders received more than 50% of the vote on July 15, but Myrex and Hollingsworth came close with 49.8% and 43.2%, respectively.
"Congratulations to Cindy Myrex and Clint Hollingsworth on advancing to the runoff election! If you live in the Cullman area, mark your calendar and get out to vote on Tuesday, August 12, 2025," the Alabama Republican Party posted on its Facebook. "We have two outstanding Republican candidates who are working hard to earn your support—let's keep HD12 red!"
Hollingsworth and Myrex both thanked their supporters and encouraged everyone to get out the vote for the runoff.
"Well, it's official, we're headed to a runoff. It was great to see democracy in action as the final provisional ballots were counted," Hollingsworth said in a statement. "I'm proud of the campaign we've run so far, and I'm excited to get back out there, meet more of the great people of Cullman County, and finish strong. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this far! Let's keep the momentum going all the way to August 12!
Myrex said, "Cullman County, I am counting on you. I will show up for you. I will listen to you and take your voice to Montgomery! I won't make promises I can't keep, but what I will do is promise to be your voice, and I will have open communication throughout my term! I won't forget who I work for because this is not political, it's personal!!! #alpolitics Vote AUGUST 12th.”
