There’s an old saying that “You can’t go home again.”
Herman Pair, the minister of senior adults at Lakeside Church in Birmingham, is from Stamp, located in DeKalb County. It is actually a sub-community of Valley Head, just north of Fort Payne.
DeKalb County, Alabama, not to be confused with that Atlanta metropolis of DeKalb County, Georgia, is in the northeast corner of the state, abutting the Georgia line and approaching Chattanooga.
This is where Herman Pair grew up, going to Sylvania High School. He is a native Stampite. From there, he went to Birmingham’s Samford University.
Following a lifetime of spreading the gospel, Herman Pair is returning to the church where he grew up to preach – Stamp Baptist Church. He will be in his home pulpit on Sunday for the morning service at 11 a.m. To experience their Sunday School, arrive at 10 a.m.
Herman Pair brings a world – literally – of work fulfilling the Great Commission. He has Herman Pair Ministries. He is the president of the International Bible Institute, training pastors in third-world countries.
In his home church, Pair will preach a nostalgic sermon – “I Remember When.”

Here is the announcement Pair posted:
SUNDAY, JUNE 22, 2025, I will be going back home to STAMP BAPTIST CHURCH, to preach. This is always a joy to me, because of the love I have for this Church where I grew up and was so influenced by the people. I invite all my friends and family from the Henagar, Sylvania, Ider, Rainsville, Fort Payne, Valley Head, Dunlap areas to come at 11:00am. My sermon title will be, "I REMEMBER WHEN." We will review some of the great times and people of our past at Stamp. Call, visit, and invite people to attend. I'll see you there with your Bible in one hand and your friends and families in the other hand! It will be a GLORIOUS DAY!
It’s not a long way from Stamp to Birmingham – only a lifetime away.
