The primary security group that trains Jewish synagogues in Alabama on security has heightened an alert level in response to the Iran attacks on Israel.
The Secure Community Network (SCN) told 1819 News synagogues should stay open and operational but should also be vigilant and review all security protocols.
“In this moment of escalating international tension, the lights are blinking bright red, and they are blinking fast,” SCN stated. “The Jewish community across North America is facing unprecedented antisemitism and a heightened threat landscape and we must increase our vigilance to protect the community.”
Wyatt Ronan, with SCN, told 1819 News that it was important for the Jewish community to continue to have services.
“We must not allow those who seek to spread fear to win,” SCN stated in a press release along with the Anti-Defamation League. “We will never abandon what makes us Jewish in the face of those who wish us harm.”
SCN has also put all Israeli foreign missions on high alert. They plan to issue an update on Sunday.
Anyone who notices anything suspicious is urged to contact local law enforcement immediately.
