Over the past two months, agents with Homeland Security have partnered with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office to arm middle school students with the knowledge they need to avoid becoming victims.
The agents presented facts and advice to students on how to identify possible child predators, including those who make child porn or travel to engage in illicit sexual activity with minors.
“The purpose was to target the middle school-aged children and hopefully get that message to them about the issues and of online predators and people taking photographs or soliciting new photographs of the children,” Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery explained.
Lowery said the Homeland Security program originated in Washington and has spread all over the nation. As sheriff, Lowery said protecting children is his number one priority.
Deputies will continue to work in schools and use resources provided by Homeland Security to educate the public.
