A suspected drug overdose fatality ended in charges Monday for a Baldwin County man believed to be the supplier of the drugs.
Tyrell Shamon Johnson, 35, a homeless man, is charged with manslaughter, attempting to commit a controlled substance crime and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Gulf Shores Police Department first responded to the death of Matthew Caddy at Twin Pines Circle. Officers suspected a drug overdose and called in officials with the Baldwin County Coroner’s Office.
After a preliminary screening on the scene, a test indicated the presence of fentanyl in Caddy’s system.
The Baldwin County Drug Task Force was then called in to investigate. Investigators determined Johnson was likely the person who sold the drugs to Caddy, and after an interview, he was taken into custody.
According to jail records, Johnson is being held in the Baldwin County Jail with no bond, pending more possible charges from Gulf Shores. His bond from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office charges total $51,000.
