Building on the momentum of his strong endorsements and community support upon launching his campaign, Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis is showing an equally impressive first campaign finance report, outraising incumbent Mayor Frank Brocato by over $50,000.
Both candidates raised over six figures, setting up one of the most expensive in the city's history.
According to the report filed with the Alabama Secretary of State on April 1, Derzis raised $156,200.00 in March.
Brocato showed $101,050 raised during that same period. He came into the race with $1,278.47 in his campaign account.
In a written statement, Derzis said, "I’m truly grateful for the outpouring of support since launching my campaign to be our next Mayor of Hoover. After 45 years of serving this city, I’ve never been more certain that Hoover is ready for a change, and our fundraising numbers are only confirmation.”
“This campaign is about more than promises — it’s about delivering real results. It’s time to restore accountability, invest in our schools and parks, and ensure our neighborhoods remain safe and strong. Hoover deserves leadership that works for the people — not behind closed doors — and that’s exactly what I’m here to do," he added.
Brocato confirmed that he was seeking a third term following his State of the City address in January and filed his principal campaign committee paperwork with the Secretary of State on March 14. Brocato did not respond to an email request for comment.
