MONTGOMERY — Members of the House Economic Development and Tourism committee passed a bill legalizing historical horse racing machines in Greene County on Tuesday.
The bill was called back up for a vote by Committee chair State Rep. Andy Whitt (R-Harvest) at the end of the Tuesday meeting after the committee initially voted the bill down on Thursday due to the Senate not passing a comprehensive gambling bill in the 2024 session.
However, the bill passed on a voice vote on Tuesday with no discussion.
Senate Bill 90, a local bill by Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton (D-Greensboro), would allow pari-mutuel wagering on historical horse racing computerized machines in Greene County.
Similar legislation passed the Senate in 2023 and 2024 but died in the House. It passed the Senate again this session. There are five days left in the 2025 session. The bill was amended in the House committee, so it will need to pass the House and the Senate before being sent to Gov. Kay Ivey for consideration.
