The House Economic Development and Tourism Committee will hold a public hearing Tuesday on legislation by State Rep. Jeremy Gray (D-Opelika) that would allow Alabama high school athletes to profit off of their name, image, and likeness (NIL).

House Bill 489 would allow high school student athletes to receive NIL compensation like college athletes. The bill would also provide requirements for compensating them for the use of their name, image, or likeness.

There are only five legislative days left in the 2025 legislative session.

The public hearing is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the State House.
