Alabama House Majority Leader Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle) publicly endorsed U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) the day after announcing his bid for governor.

Tuberville officially announced his run on Tuesday, confirming what many had already accepted as a certainty. The announcement predictably drew support from several state Republicans and ire from the state’s Democratic Party.

On Wednesday, Stadthagen wasted no time in releasing a statement in which he “enthusiastically” gave the former Auburn coach his endorsement.

“I just got off of a phone call with Coach Tuberville and I told him he has my full support in his campaign to be Alabama’s next Governor,” Stadthagen said. “He is the right man for the job and I am looking forward to voting for him and, after he is elected, working with him to pass the most conservative legislative agenda in Alabama’s history.”

Stadthagen pointed to Tuberville’s close ties to President Donald Trump and how that relationship will benefit the state, echoing Alabama’s Republican leadership’s stated efforts to coalesce around Trump’s efforts at the federal level.

“Coach is completely on board with the Trump agenda and he knows how to get things done,” Stadthagen continued. “He knows what is important to keep our state and this nation on the right track,” Stadthagen explained. “When it comes to fiscal responsibility, protecting children from radical liberal agendas, keeping manufacturing jobs in America and putting our values and our citizens first, Coach Tuberville is the man to lead that charge in 2026.”
