The Alabama House passed a resolution last week naming the Attorney General’s office building in Montgomery after Governor Kay Ivey.
Thirty-eight House members co-sponsored the resolution.
The resolution states, “there truly is no step too high for our most celebrated and most loved 'high-stepper,' Governor Kay Ellen Ivey.”
“That to honor Governor Ivey, who has loved her state and served it so well, the Alabama Building Renovation Finance Authority is strongly encouraged to designate the State of Alabama office building located at 501 Washington Avenue in Montgomery the 'Kay Ivey Office Building,' to sit in parallel to the state office building named for her political inspiration, Lurleen B. Wallace, and to stand as an enduring marker of our admiration and respect for her successful tenure as Alabama's Chief Executive,” the resolution states. “BE IT FURTHER RESOVLED, That the Alabama Building Renovation Finance Authority take all appropriate steps, consistent with applicable requirements and laws, to effectuate this designation, including by causing Governor Ivey's name to appear on the outside of the building, by erecting all appropriate signs and markers, and by posting a framed copy of this resolution in a prominent location within the building lobby.”
Ivey is term-limited and unable to seek re-election in 2026. She has served as governor since 2017.
There are six days left in the 2026 legislative session.
