The Auburn University athletic department reported a $9 million profit for the 2023 fiscal year while the University of Alabama broke even over the same time period.

Fiscal year 2023 runs from Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2023, for Auburn University and the University of Alabama. The two sports in both programs that generated a profit were men’s basketball and football.

Auburn basketball generated revenue of $19.2 million and had $15 million in expenses for a profit of $4.2 million in fiscal year 2023.

Auburn’s football program generated revenue of $125.6 million and $72 million in expenses for a profit of $53.6 million.  Non-basketball/football revenue was $7.6 million with expenses of $41.5 for a loss of $33.9 million.

Auburn’s entire athletic program generated revenues of $192.7 million with $183.7 million in expenses for a $9 million profit.

Alabama basketball in 2023 generated a profit of $7.8 million with $20.6 million in revenue and $12.8 million in expenses.

Alabama football reported a profit of $46.6 million with $125.8 million in revenue and $79.2 million in expenses. Alabama reported a loss of $9.6 million for other non-basketball/football teams with $25.5 million in revenue and $35.1 million in expenses.

The Crimson Tide reportedly broke even on athletics for fiscal year 2023 with revenues and expenses coming in at $191,190,486.

The totals are from Auburn and Alabama’s annual Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act survey. Colleges and universities across the country self-report their financials to the U.S. Department of Education annually.
