The Jefferson County Republican Party hosted a Straw Poll breakfast on Saturday, attracting almost 200 voters.

In the race for U.S. Senate, political newcomer Jared Hudson won with 54% of the vote over Moore's 35% and Marshall's 7%.

The poll showed U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) led challenger Case Dixon 53% to 47% among attendees.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) had 91% of the vote for governor.

The poll showed current Secretary of State Wes Allen leading, with Trump-endorsed John Wahl at 40% to 17% and Pat Bishop at 14%.

In the race for attorney general, the straw poll has former Associate Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell leading with 45%, with Pam Casey second at 41% and Katherine Robertson, chief counsel for Marshall, third at 14%.

In the race for state auditor, Derek Chen defeats incumbent Andrew Sorrell 63% to 37%

In down-ballot races, there are upsets in both Public Service Commission races, with Matt Gentry and Jim Zeigler leading their respective places. All incumbent members of the state legislature easily win their races.

The primary election will be held on May 19. The voter registration deadline to participate in the primary is May 4. For races that go to a runoff, those elections will be held on June 16.
