The Huntsville Police Department’s K9 unit is $1,000 richer thanks to an online contest. The department placed runner-up in the Aftermath K9 Grant contest.

People were asked to go online and vote. There was a total of over 500,000 votes on K9 first responders.

“Thank you everyone for voting for our K9 unit!” Huntsville PD posted on Facebook. “We are proud to announce we were awarded a $1,000 grant as a runner-up. The money will go to our K9 unit for training!”

In all, $29,000 in grants were awarded.

The purpose of the contest was to support law enforcement nationwide, according to organizers. Those organizers said they are already preparing for the 2022 competition. They encourage all first responders, including firemen, to submit photos for the contest every year.
