The Huntsville Police Department is opening applications for the fall 2026 Citizen’s Police Academy.
Participants will learn about the structure of the police department, civil and criminal law, community policing, SWAT, domestic violence and other topics. Police say the academy offers a behind-the-scenes look at HPD and goes “beyond the headlines.”
“Participants gain firsthand insight into the department’s culture, structure and day-to-day practices while engaging directly with the officers who serve our community,” the department stated. “Designed to strengthen trust, understanding and transparency, the academy creates meaningful opportunities for dialogue between residents and law enforcement. This is a volunteer educational program intended to inform and engage the community – it is not a path to employment with the police department.”
The nine-week program will take place every Tuesday evening from September 15 to 17.
Citizens may apply online.
