Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is staying in the Senate race despite President Donald Trump's endorsement of U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) on Saturday.

Trump said Moore had his "Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next United States Senator from Alabama." Trump's endorsement will likely thin the field of candidates for the open Senate seat in Alabama, but Marshall said on Sunday he planned to stay in the race.

Marshall said in a statement on Sunday, "Alabama — you know me by now. I don't back down, and I most certainly don't back up. Bold, conservative change isn't easy. But as your Attorney General, I never sat back and I never played it safe. That isn't who you are, that isn't who I am, and that isn't what you elected me to do."

"As your Attorney General, I've supported President Trump and his agenda and always put the people of Alabama First.  I traveled with Senator Tuberville and then-Senator Vance to be the first to stand with him during the outrageous witch-hunt court case in New York. And, after the stolen 2020 election, I took on the Biden Administration every chance I got, and won. If you want to know what kind of Senator I'll be, just look at my record as Attorney General," Marshall said. "Time and again, I was urged to back off from our conservative values and to pursue common ground when it comes to the left's radical transgender agenda and woke DEI initiatives. But I held firm that there is no middle ground when it comes to protecting our children. And what may have rattled some of the most powerful interests in this country? When I told opioid manufacturers and distributors that I would hold them accountable for what they've done to our Alabama families. That fight wasn't easy, but because we didn't back down, Alabama secured over $750 million that's going directly into our communities for addiction treatment, prevention and recovery."

Marshall continued, "I'm proud to have the support of the Alabama Farmers Federation, our 57-county strong Farmers Coalition, 50 DAs & Sheriffs as part of our Law Enforcement Coalition, campaign county chairmen leading grassroots efforts across our state, and more than 200 Alabama business leaders, elected officials, and conservative activists."

"You honored me with the responsibility of serving as your Attorney General. I'm still that same man today. And you can count on me to take those same conservative values to D.C. and keep working alongside President Trump, this time as your United States Senator," Marshall said.
