U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) told "Breitbart News Daily" on Tuesday that people who drive for a living in the United States must be proficient in English.
While discussing his UBER Act, which he introduced earlier this month, Tuberville explained that people have already been injured in crashes caused by foreign drivers who are unable to read road signs or understand the rules of the road.
"If you can't speak English and take an English driving test, you do not get a driver's license, and you do not drive people around for Lyft and Uber," said Tuberville.
The senator said in Alabama, there is evidence that people coming from other countries are packing houses in peak tourism times to share work visas and driver's licenses to drive for Uber and Lyft.
"It takes away from people in this country that are citizens that can make a living," he said.
Tuberville introduced the Secure Commercial Licensing Act last month, which would require all CDL testing to be conducted only in English.
"You've got to speak English and read English to drive. You can't read the signs, you're going to hurt somebody and we've had many of wrecks because of people that Gavin Newsom in California has given, just handed out these truck licenses and kill people because those things are weapons. If you don't know what you're doing."
The issue, Tuberville said, was a sign of the poor immigration policies.
Tuberville also discussed the next government shutdown deadline and what lawmakers are doing to protect American paychecks.
