U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) will be cooperating with federal law enforcement agencies to fight illegal immigration in Alabama should he take office as the state's next presumptive governor in January 2027.
During a call with reporters Thursday, the lawmaker explained his planned approach to the issue.
"We've got to work with ICE," Tuberville said. "President Trump ran on mass deportations all over the country, and President Trump was widely supported in his re-election. The woke mob is trying every way to stop ICE from doing their job, and it's just unfortunate."
"They're more for these illegals than they are for people who actually go out there and work from eight to five every day and make a hard-earned living,” he added.
According to Tuberville, all illegal aliens in the state and country are, by definition, criminals.
"So as far as I'm concerned, if you're illegal, you're a criminal, and you should be deported," he argued. "I will empower law enforcement to enforce the laws and deport criminals when I'm governor, because we have to get people out of this country who are draining the money from our coffers and taking all the tax money they possibly can get. Really, even sending a lot of them back to these third-world countries."
Continued Tuberville, "We will work with the FBI, ICE, all the county sheriffs, deputies, state troopers-we're all going to be on top of it because they are not going to live in Alabama and take the fruits of our labor."
During his time in Washington, D.C., Tuberville has introduced and co-sponsored multiple pieces of legislation aimed at fighting illegal immigration in the United States, including the Border Safety and Security Act, the Laken Riley Act and the ASSIMILATION Act.
