An illegal alien from Honduras was arrested late last week after breaking into a Marshall County residence with a homeowner inside.

According to local law enforcement, the woman called police around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday and told dispatch that someone was currently inside her home after hearing glass shatter.

Deputies and investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, along with officers from Grant PD, quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found that the suspect, Wilmer Alfredo Fernandez Martinez, 28, had fled on foot. The female resident inside the house was reportedly unharmed.

Shortly after attempting to run from the scene, Fernandez Martinez was taken into custody without incident when a deputy spotted him walking along the roadway near the site of the home invasion.

Fernandez Martinez has now been charged with burglary in the second degree and theft of property fourth degree.

He is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail with no bond on an ICE detainer.
