MOBILE — An illegal immigrant arrested in Mobile County has ties to the dangerous MS-13 gang, according to previous arrest documents.
Elmer Amador, of El Salvador, was arrested on July 26 and charged with sexual misconduct and third-degree burglary after a woman was attacked at her home.
The Mobile County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the home on Grady Dunn Road West at 9:33 a.m. The victim and another caller told 911 that a man was inside the residence attempting to assault the woman. The woman said her dogs saved her by scaring the suspect from the home.
When deputies arrived, they found Amador outside the residence near heavy equipment. They detained Amador and placed him in a patrol vehicle while they spoke to the victim.
The woman said she was home by herself, but her boyfriend, who repairs heavy equipment, was expecting the man to drop off a trailer that morning. She opened the gate to let the man in and reported that almost immediately after parking, Amador approached her aggressively, reaching down her shirt and assaulting her.
"When the victim attempted to flee, AMADOR grabbed her again," the sheriff's office confirmed. "The victim then ran inside her residence, locked herself in the bathroom, and called 911."
However, she said the suspect did not stop trying to pursue her, even trying to unlock the bathroom door.
During an interview at the sheriff's office, Amador was found to be in possession of nearly $9,500. Sheriff Paul Burch told 1819 News that investigators discovered that Amador was under final removal orders from a previous deportation and had been ignoring those orders for several years.
Further, Burch said Amador, who was previously charged with multiple DUIs, drug charges and assault with a deadly weapon, was listed as a member of the MS-13 gang, an international criminal gang.
The United States Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been notified. Amador is being held in the Metro Jail on a hold.
