An indictment released this week revealed new details about the arrest of Kristi Bain, a 2022 candidate for Cullman County Commission and former Alabama Industrial Development and Training (AIDT) assistant director.
According to the indictment, Bain is charged with aggravated theft of public funds and nine ethics violations. The alleged theft exceeded $100,000.
Bain allegedly illegally acquired solar panels, televisions, Yamaha golf carts, drones, robots and racking storage while serving as AIDT assistant director. AIDT is a division of the Department of Commerce.
A legislative audit in December estimated the total alleged fraudulent use of public funds at $240,000. The audit referred to a former AIDT employee but didn’t specifically mention Bain.
