A downtown Mobile bar was the scene of a shooting late Sunday after police said an innocent bystander was shot and injured.

Police responded to the scene at Hayley’s Bar on Dauphin Street just before midnight. They found the man near the back of the bar. The victim was transported to the hospital.

Investigators said it started when a man and woman got into an altercation, leading to the shooting. The man involved was identified as Michael Sullivan, 50. Sullivan was still on the scene and was arrested.

Police believe Sullivan meant to shoot another individual but missed and hit the man at the back of the bar.

Sullivan remains in jail, charged with first-degree assault.
