The International Paper mill operating in Pine Hill in Wilcox County announced it is suspending operations at the location after one of the facility’s critical roofs suffered damage.
In a release dated July 9, the company did not specify the extent of the damage or what employees could expect in relation to compensation for the downtime, which it says will likely last into next month.
“The company is assessing required repairs and currently expects to resume manufacturing in August,” a release from International Paper reads. “The company is also working closely with customers to manage any potential impacts and appreciates the support of its employees, customers and stakeholders while working through this process safely.”
The company went on to say that the decision to shut down operations was taken “proactively” and “out of an abundance of caution.”
“International Paper values the safety of its employees and contractors above all else,” the release continues.
