The Mobile County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a woman killed Saturday.
Deputies responded to a call about a woman found unresponsive in her yard on Beverly Road in Irvington.
Upon arrival, they found Diane Marrow Trest, 70, in her front yard with head trauma. A mallet was found near her body.
Trest was pronounced dead on the scene.
After interviewing witnesses, deputies determined the woman's granddaughter, Jailen Meiya Lupton, 18, was the suspect in the beating death. They said a driver was flagged down by a woman who stated Lupton killed Trest. A neighbor claimed Lupton forced her way into her home, pushed her down and demanded her car keys. The neighbor said Lupton admitted she had just killed her grandmother.
Lupton was arrested and charged with murder and second-degree burglary.
