The Mobile County Sheriff's Office arrested a man after what they call a "disturbing crime."

Frank Conley, 22, of Irvington, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Investigators believe Conley stabbed the family dog, "Bell," with a kitchen knife in the abdomen, puncturing her lungs. The dog died, and Conley allegedly buried the family pet in the backyard of his home in the 8000 block of Two Mile Road.

"Investigators determined that the killing was allegedly motivated by the dog repeatedly defecating within the home," the sheriff's office stated. "During the interview, investigators noted a lack of remorse displayed by Conley."

The incident occurred on Monday, and Conley was arrested shortly after. Upon investigation, deputies determined Conley may be connected to other recent animal disappearances in the area.

"As a lifelong advocate for animals, this case is especially heartbreaking," said Sheriff Paul Burch. "No animal deserves to suffer and acts of cruelty like this will not be ignored in Mobile County. We will continue to pursue justice for victims—human and animal alike."

Conley is considered innocent until proven guilty.
