President Donald Trump recently posted on Truth Social about a New York Times article featuring Mobile pastor Travis Johnson.
The article, titled "An Alabama Pastor Credits Trump for putting 'Christ' Back in Christmas," gave an inside look at Johnson's church, Pathway.
Johnson told 1819 News he was delighted to hear that Trump shared the article Tuesday evening.
"I saw it last night when my phone started blowing up," Johnson said. "My first thought was, 'Oh, President Trump just gave me a shout out on Truth Social.'"
Johnson, who has traveled nationwide to Trump events and has frequented the White House, including a trip during which Trump established the Religious Liberty Commission, said he is thankful to have a president who stands for God.
"I think it's pretty amazing to have a president that has brought faith, family and freedom back to the forefront of our country, and so I'm going to preach what I'm going to preach, but it's really wonderful to know that there's backup in the Oval Office for Jesus-loving people of faith all over America who want to speak freely and see their communities be blessed," Johnson said.
Johnson emphasized the importance of having a faith-defending president in the wake of this week's protest at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minn.
"To know that people of faith not only have the support of the president, but have a regular voice with the president, it means a lot," Johnson added. "It's not just for pastors and people that gather in their church and are in situations like we saw in Minnesota, but also for employees and teachers and government workers who are able to express their faith without fear of some type of persecution or some type of retribution."
