U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) lambasted presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris for not greeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he arrived on American soil to deliver an address before Congress.
Netanyahu arrived in the United States on Monday. President Joe Biden and Harris were notably missing from the welcome party at the airport tarmac. Harris has been the proverbial uncrowned Democratic nominee since Biden announced his bowing out of the presidential race and endorsing Harris for the seat. Notably, Biden was reportedly sequestered after testing positive for COVID-19.
Harris will also miss Netanyahu's joint congressional address on Wednesday to campaign in Indiana, a move that U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) called "outrageous" and "not a good look."
On Wednesday, Tuberville lamented the concept of a Harris presidency, saying she was "way more liberal than Joe Biden."
"She has defended Hamas terrorists while refusing to pay respects to Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is in town today," Tuberville said. "Crazy Kamala Harris is so liberal that even California Democrats can't stomach her. She got less than 1% of the Democrat primary vote in 2020."
The White House barricaded the outskirts of the Capitol Building ahead of Netanyahu's visit due to the massive number of pro-Palestinian protests expected with the Prime Minister's address. Reports also state that protesters pulled fire alarms and released maggots and mealworms in Netanyahu's hotel.
"You can protest all you want peacefully outside the building, but they got inside the hotel, pulling fire alarms, throwing maggots and bugs all over the hotel where he's staying. It's a disgrace; it really is," Tuberville stated. "That's the type of people that we deal with up here every day. It's just embarrassing that this administration, no matter what you believe in, you had a person come from another country, that's a leader of this country, that's a huge ally of ours, and nobody meets them at the airport of any significance?"
"I understand Joe Biden has got COVID or whatever, but Kamala Harris should have been there shaking his hand," he continued. "That's her job. She's the Vice President of the United States, and if the president can't do it, she needs to do it. And it's embarrassing as an American that we did not welcome him here, and hopefully, he gets a better welcome when we meet him at 2:00 Eastern Time today in the House of Representatives building."
