On the third anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision, which gave states the authority over abortion, Life on Wheels is continuing work to save lives in Alabama.

Executive director Robyn Blessing told 1819 News that abortion is still happening, and the non-profit is educating women about the dangers of the abortion pill.

"We're seeing women every day who either have the pills or thinking about taking the abortion pills or are going to travel to Columbus," Blessing told 1819 News. "It's just not over."

Blessing said there is a lot of misinformation about the abortion pill. While Planned Parenthood calls the pill "very safe," the largest known study on the pill found that 10.93% of women experienced sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging or other adverse events within 45 days of taking the pill.

Still, the FDA has extended the gestational limit for use of the pill from 49 days to 70 days, allowed the dispensing of the pill via mail without an in-person medical evaluation and permitted retail pharmacies to dispense the pill.

"There's so much misinformation about the abortion pill," Blessing added. "If there's anything that needs to be communicated, it's how dangerous it is."

Blessing said it is important to know the abortion pill may be reversed within 24 hours for women who have regrets.

Life on Wheels has saved nearly 500 babies by offering a mobile Image Clear Ultrasound, free pregnancy tests and community resources.

The organization now has two buses in Montgomery and two buses in Birmingham.

Life on Wheels is starting a prayer on the first Thursday of every month at the corner of Vaughn Road and Ryan Road.

More information on Life on Wheels is available online and appointments are not necessary. Women seeking assistance can visit the Montgomery or Birmingham websites online.
