On Friday, Gov. Kay Ivey and Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth reacted to President Donald Trump's announcement that the suspected Charlie Kirk shooter had been arrested.

Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested after family members turned him in to Utah police. He is believed to have acted alone in shooting the conservative activist who embraced respectable debates on college campuses.

In calling for Robinson to get the death penalty, Ainsworth called Kirk "one of the greatest conservative voices in history."

“While it is great news, it does not erase the loss of one of the greatest conservative voices in history. Prosecutors MUST pursue the death penalty and demand justice for Charlie Kirk’s assassination.”

Ivey echoed Ainsworth's sentiment and declared that "[p]olitical violence of any kind CANNOT happen in this country."

"They got him!" she declared. "Now, justice must be served for Charlie Kirk, for his family and for our country. I would support [Gov. Spencer Cox] and Trump’s DOJ in pursuing the death penalty. Political violence of any kind CANNOT happen in this country."
