Governor Kay Ivey recognized Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson Thursday with a joint resolution highlighting his years of dedicated service.

"With great pride and special pleasure, highest commendations are conveyed to Mayor Sandy Stimpson for his faithful and unwavering service to the citizens of Nobile and its surrounding areas," the resolution stated.

Along with his leadership, the resolution highlighted Stimpson's faith and prayers for the city.

"Be it resolved by the Legislature of Alabama, both Houses thereof concurring, that Mayor Sandy Stimpson is hereby commended and recognized for his faithful, selfless, and effective service to his constituents, with sincere appreciation for his efforts to improve the lives of countless Alabamians in Mobile and beyond — all of whorn owe him a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid," the resolution added.

The legislature passed the resolution last week.

“I want to thank the members of the legislature and Governor Ivey for this recognition and for their steadfast support of Mobile throughout my tenure,” Stimpson said. “The progress we’ve made has been the result of an extraordinary team at the City of Mobile and the strong partnerships we’ve built along the way. Being the mayor of my hometown has been the honor of a lifetime, and I am grateful to the citizens of Mobile and my family for their continued support, prayers and partnership.”  

Stimpson was first elected mayor of Mobile in 2013. He is not seeking re-election.
