Alabama is one of 10 red states that haven't expanded Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act yet. Efforts to expand Medicaid in Alabama in previous sessions haven't been successful.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama touted the benefits of a new "public-private partnership" version of the program to the Association of County Commissions of Alabama this week.
According to Ivey's office, the governor is concerned about "how the state would afford it long-term."
"Governor Ivey remains opposed to expanding Medicaid because she is concerned for how the state would afford it long-term," Gina Maiola, a spokesperson for Ivey, told 1819 News on Friday.
